We delivered a modern, integrated membership platform on WordPress—complete with a custom community hub, LMS certification program, multiple custom directories, and full HubSpot CRM integration—transforming their member experience and operational efficiency.

About the Client

TechServe Alliance is the premier national trade association representing the IT & engineering staffing and solutions industry. Based in Alexandria, Virginia, Techserve Alliance provides advocacy, research, education, and networking opportunities for staffing firms across the United States.

Their membership structure is complex: multiple tiers (staffing companies, optional add-on services, local chapters), team-based memberships, historical pricing grandfathering, a full community, a mobile app, and a certification program for industry professionals.

…and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

The Challenge

When TechServe Alliance engaged MemberFix, they were operating on what their team described as “a patchwork of outdated and inflexible systems.”

Their pain points included:

  • Fragmented Technology — Multiple disconnected platforms (including legacy systems like YourMembership and Higher Logic) that didn't communicate with each other
  • Poor User Experience — Clunky processes for both members and internal staff
  • Unreliable Data — Member information scattered across systems with no single source of truth
  • Scalability Limitations — Systems that couldn't grow or adapt as Techserve Alliance's needs evolved
  • Manual Overhead — Too much staff time spent on workarounds and manual data entry
  • Limited Customization — Off-the-shelf solutions that couldn't accommodate their unique membership structure

The Solution: Our 20-Month Journey

Over a 20-month engagement, MemberFix worked closely with the Techserve Alliance team through weekly collaborative calls to build a comprehensive solution:

Platform Foundation & Seamless Payment Migration

We built a custom WordPress membership platform with WooCommerce handling complex subscription structures. This included implementing FunnelKit checkout flows optimized for their multi-tier membership model and migrating historical member data from multiple legacy systems.

🎯 Zero-Disruption Payment Migration

One of the most critical aspects of this project was migrating Techserve Alliance's existing subscribers and payment data to the new platform. We built a completely custom BluePay integration with WooCommerce that preserved all existing subscriptions and transaction history. Not a single member had to re-enter their payment information or re-subscribe. This seamless migration protected Techserve Alliance from potential churn and ensured a frictionless transition for their entire membership base.

HubSpot as the Single Source of Truth

Working closely with Pipeline Ops (Techserve Alliance's marketing and CRM team), we architected a comprehensive data synchronization strategy that makes HubSpot the authoritative source of truth for all member data.

🔄 Advanced Multi-Object Data Synchronization

We engineered a one-directional data pipeline that synchronizes multiple object types from WordPress to HubSpot CRM—a capability that most standard integration tools can't handle out of the box. While typical setups push only user records, we architected support for multiple object types, enabling Techserve Alliance to maintain comprehensive customer data in HubSpot. We also established synchronized user data flow and single sign-on (SSO) from their main WordPress site into their BuddyBoss community platform. This integrated data architecture simplifies user experience and allows the Techserve Alliance team to run detailed reports, segment members based on rich datasets, trigger automations, and make confident, data-driven decisions—all from within HubSpot.

Community Hub

We developed a custom BuddyBoss-powered community with personalized member dashboards, activity feeds, group management, and searchable member profiles. The platform includes public and private groups with request-access functionality, and we migrated existing forum discussions to preserve institutional knowledge.

Learning & Certification

We configured LearnDash LMS for their industry certification program, setting up exam functionality with certificate tracking and issuance. Historical certification records were migrated to maintain credential continuity.

Directories

We built searchable Supplier and Member directories using a highly flexible stack of GravityForms, GravityKit, and GravityPerks, thus enabling self-service profile updates so suppliers can maintain their own listings. Category tagging was implemented for improved discoverability.

The Member Directory also uses the GravityForms / GravityView stack and allows members to connect and network.

Managed TechOps

The platform is hosted on MemberHost.io for optimized performance, and we continue to support Techserve Alliance through our Managed TechOps program. This includes staging-first plugin updates with custom written regression testing, proactive monitoring, monthly reporting, and weekly pulse calls for ongoing alignment and continuous improvement, as well as a “bank” of developer hours to be used for any kind of development, tasks, fixes, etc.
