Why sell your WordPress support customers in the first place?

If you're anything like us, you've built your WordPress support business from the ground up based on relationships, quality service, hard work, and a high level of competence. Even if you're thinking of moving onto other ventures, it's your responsibility to make sure the great people who paid your bills for all those years are taken care of.

And ideally, you'd want your customers to receive an even better level of care than you were able to provide. At the very least, you don't want to injure your reputation by bailing out on the people who have depended on you for so long without some kind of hand-off process. And yet, life is calling you to other adventures and you're at the point where you need to reap the rewards of all the hard work you've put in over the years.

Obviously, you don't want just anybody to pick up where you left off. And you certainly don't want to tell your loyal clients that some big, faceless company is taking over their websites and your relationship.

Here at MemberFix we're a totally bootstrapped company that's been operating in the WordPress space for over 10 years. Our team and our processes are of an extremely high caliber and our customers absolutely adore us and stay with us for many years despite the fact that we charge several multiples above industry standard rates.

We're not in a race to the bottom, we're in a race to the top. And there's only one way to get there: by taking better care of customers than anybody else.

Our acquisition framework

We've developed a simple, common sense framework for evaluating a potential deal.

1

It has to benefit your customers

In other words, if one of your customers becomes our customer, they should get a higher level of service and a better value for their money than you were able to provide. By no means does this imply you were doing a poor job!

Rather, a lot of times when folks are ready to have this conversation with us, they're at a point where they just don't have the time, energy, or desire to service their customers at the same level as folks who are 100% committed and passionate about it. And there's nothing wrong with that.

If it's time to move on, it's time to move on. And how great would it be if you were able to transition your customers to a service provider that both you and your customers feel great about?

No guilt or anxiety for you, no interruption or reduction in service for your customers—that's the ideal we're always shooting for.

If we honestly feel like we can't clearly benefit your customers, we won't even attempt a deal.

It has to benefit you

If we're not able to offer you a fair, objectively defensible deal that's in line with market value and that is simple and straightforward to understand, then we won't do a deal.

You've worked your butt off to build up your customer roster and you should be paid fairly for the value you've created.

It has to "fit"

Every WordPress support business has unique quirks. There may be special terms, legacy plans that are no longer profitable, and other nuances that vary from business to business. If there's too large a mismatch between what you offer and what we offer then it may not be a good fit for us, for you, or for your customers.

We generally are able to provide the best value to the types of businesses whose offers and customers are already similar to ours and aligned with our own way of doing things. We're not on a buying spree or trying to take over the WordPress universe. We've had companies approach us looking to buy our Care Plan customers and several of them didn't seem to care about anything other than performing a transaction.

That doesn't fit with our core values. In fact, we will never force a fit of any kind; not with a team member, not with a customer, and certainly not with an acquisition of somebody's business! However, it's important to note that we approach deals with a reasonable degree of flexibility precisely because each situation is unique.

How the hand-off process works

The way we manage a hand off of your customers from you to us is obviously a very sensitive thing. Generally speaking, before we even do a deal we want to get your customers' buy-in and support. This is not always the case and it depends on the level of personal interaction you have with customers and the nature of your plans.

But in general, we have to keep in mind that you're not selling WordPress support plans, you're selling real relationships with real people who have businesses that feed their families. It's not a trivial thing and customers don't like being “sold” to somebody. Conversely, if a customer feels like he is actively participating in a transition to something better, he's much less likely to get cold feet or unsubscribe, assuming we take good care of him in a way he appreciates.

We will do everything we can to help with this process and ensure that your customers are ready and even excited to have their needs met by a high integrity service provider that would make you proud. If it sounds like we might be the right people to work with, please submit the inquiry form and we'll get a call booked to discuss your situation.
